We really like Grist.org out of Seattle, WA. It's a little skewed toward US content, but still has something for everyone, and their writing style is spot on.

Another great find by Todd Drake from his Make Art Like You Care blog. Fly on the Wall Productions is a South African film production company that’s doing some really great things around environmental and world issues. One of their most recent projects was in cooperation with the Discovery Channel and the creation by nine artists, of a continuous, circular painting depicting the most serious issues facing the world.
This embedded video is of the Making of Circular Painting, but you can see the finished film on their website or on Vimeo, where the size is a bit larger.
