That Idiot Glen Beck Attacks My Fav Eco Video

There’s no end to the heights of assholedom that Glen Beck can rise… along with the FOX News channel he works for. Now he’s even taken after The Story of Stuff, one of our favourite videos on the evils of our consumerist culture.
Here is the email from The Story of Stuff’s creator, Annie Leonard, that I received today. Please help in any way you can.
*********************
Glenn Beck attacked the use of The Story of Stuff in classrooms across the country on his radio and television programs this Tuesday.
In Beck’s increasingly erratic and paranoid view of the world, an honest exploration of the environmental and social challenges our children are inheriting is worthy of scorn and ridicule, not honest engagement.
Beck’s attack stands in stark contrast to the outpouring of support we’ve received from teachers across the country over the past two years. We’re honored that educators from middle school through university are using our film to spark debate and engage students in critical thinking about some of the greatest challenges of the 21st century.
You can find a full statement on Beck’s program from The Story of Stuff Project on our blog.
If you’re a teacher who comes under attack because of Beck’s program, please contact , our Special Projects Coordinator.
If you’d like to express your support for The Story of Stuff, we encourage you to spread the word about the film by forwarding this message to your friends, posting a Facebook update that links to our blog, writing your own blog post or by Tweeting your support. You can also make a contribution to the Story of Stuff Project here.
Finally, if you’d like to stop Glenn Beck’s ongoing attacks on those who speak out in favor of environmental sustainability and social justice, we encourage you to visit Media Matters for America or Color of Change.
Thanks for your support and encouragement!
Annie

Why don’t you fact check before you post propaganda? T o be a good activist you need to understand real evidence of the situation you are writing about, sans the Ad Hominem - I doubt that Beck is an Idiot or a real asshole but lets give you the benefit of the doubt because I only have checked out the video that you mention posted on youtube. If beck is really an idiot as you claim, you back it up with zero facts just merely your emotional Ad Nausium. This tactic would never hold up in a critical debate… You would be laughed out for merely following the predictable sophmorish Propaganda tactics.
Although I feel Annie is probably not some crazy evil doer out to indoctrinate our children, because I do not know her enough I don’t need to propagate that she is some crazy bitch, I resort to weighing out what she states as fact is in fact NOT TRUE when she presents the STATS.
After my child a year ago came home with a packet and worksheet after watching the Video in her 5th grade class I welcomed to help her with an action at home to conserve energy. However after reading the sheet that summarizes some of the GNP I became concerned that it seems very biased and reading more I wanted to watch the video. I jumped on the we with my daughter and the first link came from a blog that was obviously a pro-socialist collectivist web site. This is fine and welcomed to have alternative views as long as the We The People have a clear upfront and accountability of intentions, specifically if one uses a list of falsehoods and dangerous psychological propaganda techniques to my daughter.
I am taking time here because I find your blog here very helpful in other interest that I have in my life. Design, activism and open minded people who are often more open to new ideas.
I only make my reply here with examples of where you follow Propaganda, ya know that kind of stuff that is not real pretty to our minds and souls. We all want a better environment but it starts with our minds detoxed from old world mental toxins.
• You follow the tactics taken rite out of Propaganda for dummies 101. In your post and headline by using:
• a very prominent Ad hominem - attacking your opponent (I.e, asshole, idiot calling), as opposed to attacking their arguments.
• Half Truths - ( repeating the wrong facts in video obviously without checking with a third party data
• Stereotyping - As in your assumption Beck must be wrong because he sits at FOX TV - ironic heI learn he is a Libertarian
• your use of Unstated assumptions ( “outpouring support in contrast…” But Then why is Beck on Cover of Time Magazine which states that he has “touched the nerve of Millions of Mothers?” Please don’t argue that they must now be racist?
• I can go on, …Your use of Scapegoating, Use of Virtue Words, Quotes out of Context , etc..
But really what I am getting at is that I too am a concerned activist and when I pull up the youtube videos of Beck’s shows tagged with this subject I learn that he too researched the facts like I did with my daughter last year.
The video is also not upfront who funded the video and at this one point alone should protest it based on the fundamental principle that no biased political objectives to indoctrinate our children, even more so when its painted in green and fun DIY graphics should be allowed a forum in classrooms.
•
• I find teaching my children to be apart of the solution takes a radical undoing. And concerning stuff and our culture of consumer royalty that is worshiped with rigid economics that our current President answers to will not change anything, just because he too uses Propaganda with some web 2.0 slogans as New! Good! Green! Hope! Branding.
•
A new Ecological Economy is needed and merely ‘buying in’ to be a smart shopper or Ten Things to Save the Earth is not a solution. It will take such a more Un polite way to save the earth then merely co opting into another money hungry Energy industry painted green to appeal to un-guilt Consumer Choices!
( Halliburton yesterday, GE in the white house today).
I suggest you watch this video below and ask yourself how you would react if I told you it was going to be taught? Would you feel outraged when your child comes home with Ten Thing To Do To Expose More Carbon Dioxide project?

SOS has converted your energies to follow a much more dangerous example for our children. It also shows how much more of impact & real dangers with Consumer obsessed culture and Blog O Sphere of hype. We are missing the boat that is sinking - its too loud to hear over the name calling and potty mouth childish behavior that has become the standard in American politics and the Give me something to feel good followers.
Peace

I have to agree with excilis regarding calling Glen an asshole (even if he is one).
Unfortunately both sides of this cultural debate use half truths to demonize the other side. I don’t really see any resolve to the debate in a civil manner.
People are disengaged in our democracies(USA & CANADA).
Voter turn out among our youth is at an all time low and lets face it you can’t really blame them. The fact is people are stretched thin and stressed out just trying to survive in todays greed filled consumer based society and they’re mad as hell, perfect for the culture war pickings. A divided people are a conquered people
Every civilization eventually dies and our civilizations are on there way to the hospital, unfortunatley the hospital has been closed due to lack of funding and interest.
But don’t worry with death comes new life a new beginning… Probably not for us but maybe for future generations.
